We’re not rewriting history. We’re finally telling it right.

Melanin Mythbusters started with a simple frustration: the stories that shaped Black culture, identity and history were either missing, watered down or just plain wrong. Every episode is a deep dive into the myths, milestones, mysteries and memories that define the Black experience. The history that got left out of textbook and the culture that shaped the whole world but rarely got credit for it. Through visual storytelling Melanin Mythbusters explores the origins, impact and evolution of traditions, language, music, fashion, movements and everyday cultural experiences that are often misunderstood, erased or disconnected from their roots. What started as social content has grown into a larger mission: creating a space where culture, education, curiosity and community intersect.

Meet the Creator

Founded by Alanté Serene, Melanin Mythbusters blends journalism, cultural research, and visual storytelling to explore the myths, milestones, mysteries and memories that define Black culture and history. Alanté Serene is a journalist, producer and Howard University graduate whose work spans NPR, Tiny Desk Concerts, CBS and NBC — and Melanin Mythbusters is where she puts all of it to work on her own terms. Built out of a genuine curiosity about Black life, the show is dedicated to uncovering the rich history, deeper context and real stories behind the traditions, experiences and moments that shape who we are. What sets her apart is how she tells those stories. Alanté’s hosting style feels like your most well-researched cousin finally sitting down to explain something you always wondered about. She makes history feel like something you’d actually want to talk about. This approach has built a growing online community of over 140,000 and earned content that’s garnered millions of views.
